The Lingfield Legacy
Since 1996, Lingfield Equine Distance Learning has been a trusted and respected name in equestrian education. As one of the UK’s leading providers of specialist horse care and equine management courses, Lingfield has supported over 8,000 students over the years – horse owners, yard managers, riding school staff, and aspiring professionals – on their journey to build knowledge, confidence, and better lives for the horses in their care.
As an accredited training provider with UKRS, Lingfield has delivered a range of BHS and ABRS-based equine distance learning courses tailored for real people: those juggling work, family, and riding with a genuine desire to learn more. Whether you’re caring for your first pony or working toward a professional qualification, Lingfield’s flexible and friendly approach has always been rooted in making learning both achievable and enjoyable.
Lingfield began life in 1994 as Lingfield Correspondence, offering regional lecture courses and practical workshops for owners and BHS students. Throughout the years that followed, it grew into a nationally recognised distance learning provider with a pioneering online presence.
At its heart was Paula Clements, an experienced coach and tutor, and passionate advocate for better equine care and education. Over time, Paula gathered a small but expert team of like-minded professionals – each with years of hands-on experience in the field.
These tutors weren’t just experts – they were people who truly understood their students. From coaching and assessing for BHS, ABRS, and RDA, to publishing articles in leading industry publications, they brought a wealth of real-world knowledge and a down-to-earth, approachable teaching style.
Even after students completed their course, support didn’t end. Lingfield tutors were known for their open-door attitude, happy to answer questions months – or even years – after a course ended.
From the very beginning, Lingfield’s mission was simple: to improve the lives of horses by improving the knowledge of the people who care for them.
Through a friendly, informal approach, we help students grow in knowledge and confidence – opening minds to better, kinder, and more thoughtful ways of working with horses.
Passing the Reins: Lingfield’s Legacy Continues
In early 2025, Paula Clements sadly passed away – but her work and passion lives on.
Before her passing, Paula entrusted the full body of Lingfield’s courses, teaching materials, and educational philosophy to EQUK as its values closely aligned to her own. At EQUK we are committed to honouring Paula’s decades of work by continuing to make equine education:
- Accessible to all
- Rooted in real-world practice
- Focused on horse welfare
- Supportive of grassroots professionals and everyday owners alike
EQUK’s mission mirrors the principles Paula championed through Lingfield: to raise standards of care and understanding in the equestrian world, and to support everyone – from hobbyist to professional – on their journey to becoming more confident, compassionate, and capable horse people.
By continuing to deliver Lingfield’s courses with the same heart, clarity, and integrity, EQUK ensures that Paula’s vision lives on.
We will share more in the coming weeks exactly how this will happen.
